Billy's violence
“Quentin Tarantino is a choirboy by comparison to the sheer brutality evoked by Shakespeare” (Jan Lauwers). In Billy’s Violence, Needcompany tackles Shakespeare’s ten tragedies and transforms them into violent, loving, and timeless dialogues in which women take center stage. Shakespeare brought violence and sex to the stage to attract an audience sadly accustomed to the brutality of torture and public executions to the theater. But what does violence mean in today’s art? Do we perceive it differently from the public of the sixteenth century? Do we enjoy it? And if so, why?
This show will be spoken in English, Spanish and Dutch, with subtitles in German and Italian.
