V. Silvestrov

Valentin Silvestrov, born in 1937 and who until recently lived in Ukraine, is one of the most influential composers of the Ukrainian avant-garde. In the 1960s, his twelve-tone music shook the Soviet regime; in the 70s and 80s he elaborated the “neo-romantic” language that continues to enchant listeners all over the world. In his film, Serhiy Bukovski explores the life and thoughts of the composer, painting a poetic portrait of an extremely acute and prolific mind. A story of curiosity, endurance, desire, and great talent in troubled times.
