Florentina Holzinger’s STADION ÉTUDE—a satellite expansion of her Austrian Pavilion contribution SEAWORLD VENICE—dismantles the sports arena as a contemporary cathedral of humanity. In Bozen's Europastadium, the artistic team scores a site-specific composition for a hot air balloon, a Musikkapelle, bells, and performers.
Suspended above the stadium from a hot air balloon, a massive bell rises across the sky. In South Tyrol, this airborne resonance invokes the historic weight of church bells that have long demarcated territorial borders, spiritual discipline, and localized identity. Beneath it, the community-driven tradition of the Musikkapelle and the plucking of the Zither form the base of this composition, creating an echo between the old and the new. Heavily rooted in regional Volksmusik, the alpine motifs are taken up and reinterpreted—a sonic incantation that casts a strange spell over the mountain-surrounded valley, twisting timeless traditions into an apocalyptic rebirth where new myths are born from the ash of the old.
The performance contains nudity and may include explicit depictions of violence, sexual violence and self-harm. Strobe lights may be used. Recommended for audiences aged 18 and over.
