Within the spaces of Rothoblaas, two visionary approaches to sonic experimentation converge in an event organized in collaboration with Museion: Xiu Xiu, the uncompromising experimental duo of Jamie Stewart and Angela Seo, and Matthew Herbert, a pioneering artist whose practice continually challenges the conventions of electronic music.

ERASERHEAD XIU XIU is a visceral immersion into the universe of Eraserhead (1977), David Lynch's debut masterpiece. Following their "Plays the Music of Twin Peaks" project, Xiu Xiu once again confront the director's imagery, translating it into a total multimedia experience. Here, sound, shaped through live recordings, handcrafted instruments, modular synthesizers, and elements of musique concrète, enters into symbiosis with a visual apparatus created ad hoc: original footage, flashes of light, and analog textures evoke the film's nocturnal and industrial aesthetic. The result is a hypnotic soundscape, a dense audiovisual form that reworks the film's themes into an autonomous reinterpretation, where the boundaries between dream, memory, and reality completely vanish.

For over thirty years, Matthew Herbert has been working at the radical fringes of electronic music, transforming real-world sounds – from the life cycle of a pig to the roar of a bombing in Libya, or even a horse’s skeleton – into political, emotional and rhythmic material. His latest solo project takes its title from a stark statistic: in the UK, food banks now outnumber branches of McDonald’s. From around 35 in 2010, the number of food banks has grown to over 2,800, distributing more than three million packages in 2023. The album is built on samples of essential goods – cans, soap, nappies, rice and shampoo – transformed into raw, physical sonic energy. The result is experimental electronic music designed for the dancefloor, capable of both energising and destabilising the listener.
