太鼓 – TAIKO The Soul of Japanese Drumming + OUU!D
Masa-Daiko + Felix Nussbaumer, Noah Punkt, Niklaus Mäder
An evening dedicated to the exploration of rhythm through two distinct lenses: from the primal, collective force of Masa-Daiko’s Japanese drums to the intricate jazz and electronic soundscapes of the OUU!D trio. A compelling dialogue where the weight of tradition meets the vanguard of contemporary experimentation.
太鼓 – TAIKO The Soul of Japanese Drumming by Masa Daiko
Rhythm, energy, and precision: Masa-Daiko evokes the archaic power of Taiko – the Japanese art of drumming – through an extraordinary display of sonic and physical intensity. Established in 1996 by multi-instrumentalist and composer Masakazu Nishimine, the ensemble gathers artists from Europe and Japan in a profound dialogue between tradition and the contemporary world. Each strike serves as an ancestral summons, blending raw strength with disciplined control through unexpected rhythmic breaks. On stage, sound and movement merge into a vivid, deeply sensory experience. Performing both Nishimine’s original compositions and traditional works, Masa-Daiko crafts a hypnotic and captivating concert where the thunderous drums engage in a fascinating interplay with silence, focus, and motion. It is a performance that, until the very last beat, embodies the timeless allure of this ancient art form.
OUU!D by Felix Nussbaumer, Noah Punkt, Niklaus Mäder
OUU!D – comprising Felix Nussbaumer, Niklaus Mäder, and Noah Punkt – defines itself as a collaborative music project in search of new sound worlds and a unique musical language rooted in jazz and European free improvisation. Their influences range from contemporary instrumental music and modular ambient drones to the sampling and chopping techniques of hip-hop. This fusion gives rise to complex sound structures with unusual grooves: irregular yet flowing rhythms that possess a mechanical quality – music that is strangely compelling and danceable. As the band describes it, it is like dancing to the sounds of a fax machine or a printer, creating a symphony of rhythmic impulses and a sonic fabric that leaves traditional notions of melody and harmony behind.
The ticket grants access to both performances.
The evening opens at 18:00 with the TAIKO concert, featuring the results of the workshop with Kids Culture Club.
